[NU Sports] thoughts from near disaster

Had a shot at the end of that one ... and needed it.
My thoughts:
1) the running defense had best get a whole lot better in a hurry. When EMU dominates upfront, look out. 5.5 ypc by EMU? Ralph Bolden could have 200 by halftime.
2) the running  offense had best get a whole lot better in a hurry. Penn State had, what, 79 rushing yards against Syracuse? With blocking like NU had Saturday, 'Cats won't get half that.
3) If Hankwitz and McCall were being "vanilla" to not show much, they best not be this week. Syracuse is shaping up as a tough, tough game, now that the Orange have a coach with a clue. Time to put full packages on display.
4) Three turnovers is two too many.
5) The defense should have some swagger after Johnson's TD and the good stop after the fumble that led to the EMU field goal. Instead it seemed flat and lazy. Is leadership lacking?
6) On the plus side, Simmons looked fine, Demos was huge, Johnson looked like a star and what happened to Michigan State did not happen to NU.
See anybody in Syracuse?
