Subject: [NU Sports] First half thoughts ...
Another solid half of football from the Cats and it's great to see. Even if the last few minutes got a bit sloppy, we're still dominating a team we should dominate. A few quick hits ...
- The O-line is really doing a nice job and their seal job on some of the runs is excellent.
- The defense is tackling better and flying to the ball better than they have in yeeeeeeeears. Credit Coach Hank!
- I also love the defensive response late - the INT return after EMU got good field position (their punter's having a heck of a day) and the stuff by the goal line after the fumble.
It also looks like Coach McCall is starting to get in a comfortable rhythm as OC, though it's been a bit vanilla (especially in the passing game) so far - hopefully that's just because we're saving stuff for later.
Around the league ...
- Right now, every NU's spidey sense is tingling that next week's game at Syracuse is a gigantic trap for the Cats. The Orange played Minny solid and now have done the same at PENN STATE. Is it sloppiness by the Nits or are the Orange really that improved? Whatever the case, we need to be on full upset alert next week.
- Someone forgot to tell WISKY and MSU that it's "step up Saturday" for the Big Ten, as they're both stinking it up at home on the ESPN channels most of the country is watching as they wait for the big ones in the Big House and the Shoe.
- Actually, the only team looking like they improved from week 1 to week 2 in the league is INDIANA. It's not like we're stepping back or anything, we've looked like a good football team for six straight quarters now ... but you'd expect some steps forward from the likes of IOWA and others.
Oh well, Cats need to come out and drive it down to keep EMU from getting any momentum. Finish strong and then worry about the 'Cuse while the rest of us enjoy two huge games for conference respect in the afternoon.
And since those two games are against the Evil Empire and the cockier than ever freshmen of Spoiled Children, I have no problem shouting GO BLUE! and GO BUCKS! ... offer good for the next 12 hours only.:)
GO CATS!!!
