We are not parading Houston, but Galveston. Beyond Pollo Campero(Guatemalan chicken chain) we did not stop or spend any time in Houston.

SA's riverwalk is a tourist trap.
The Mexican food in SA is poor. Strange, but true. The locals must be from a poor cuisine area in Mexico. And yes we know Mexican food. We even looked for advice from hispanic locals and got chain restaurant suggestions.
SA stadium is awful. The lesser $ seats were too low to have any view of the action.
The Alamo is overrated. I read historical accounts before visiting so I made an effort.
Their lone ice rink is part of a bowling alley.
Flights to SA are expensive and inconvenient.
I could go on.

In 2000 we spent a day in Corpus Christi/South Padre Island and had much more fun than the 3 days on the Riverwalk.
In 2008 we spent a day in Galveston and drove across went to dinner, the game, slept in SA, and drove to Houston's airport the next morning.

We looked for the best parts of SA in 2000 and found little.

We will have to agree to disagree on SA.

<The only thing SA has going for itself is layered margaritas.

Nonsense! San Antonio is one of my favorite cities because in many regards
it is more like a small town. No tall buildings, and there's the Alamo
sitting midtown. The Riverwalk is beautiful, and la comida es magnífico.
No se permita una actitud tan áspera hacia San Antonio cuate.
