Maybe one of our legal gurus can respond to this.

Being legally unable to use the likeness of a university, particularly a public university, or even to mention its name, is a concept one I do not understand.  Law & Order, for example, is always picking up dead bodies at the fictional Hudson University rather than N.Y.U., St. John's, or Columbia yet unhesitatingly show and discuss buildings such as the Empire State or Chrysler.  Showing respect to a university or not disrupting their routine with unapproved on-campus filming is one thing.  But to require permission even to mention them or use images?  The law certainly does not demand permission to display images of public individuals.
