[NU Sports] Baz for OC. Vote early, vote often... (fwd)

I seem to recall that the general consensus was that after his year of the
spread with RW, he was supposed to be crowned a head coach somewhere. When
the NU spread didn't quite do as well they thought, he took the job at OU -
actually as the Running Game/O-Line coach.
He moved up to OC eventually and grabbed Jim Patton from NU to be his O-Line
guy.
Walker's avowed goal was for everyone to have a different bigger job
eventually. Wilson was one of the early guys who backed that up.

Found this interesting ranking on Rivals.? Seeing that first name is a
painful experience.? We should have thrown a truckload of money at that
guy.? (I am also outraged at the official reason he gave for leaving -
school for his kids...to even compare the schools of Chicago's North Shore
with whatever passes for educational institutions in Norman, Oklahoma is
beyond ludicrous).
Of course, stealing away Crowton or Chow would be incredible coups, but
probably highly unlikely.? Maybe Shawn Watson or Dana Holgorsen could be
lured away.? Other guys like Harsin at Boise and Bajakian at CMU might be
looking for bigger stages.
And don't forget the OC at Colorado back in 1990-91.
Or maybe the whole list is suspect with the Illinois OC at #18 ??

Agreed.?? BB was a fine quarterback, but we have been 'on-the-job training'
OCs
for too long now (McGee, anyone ?).? Find a solid, experienced OC (even our
old
guy at Minnesota), and just grab them away.? Getting an experienced DC from
Madison (after they foolishly let him go) did wonders.? Let's find an OC
that
Fitz and the University like, and wave a lot of money in his face.? College
or
NFL, just get a guy who can call plays like a master.? One rich alum
postpones a
month in Majorca, and he could probably cover the cost.
Time was, we had innovative OCs, and other places stole them away from us.?
It's
time we returned the favor.

Basanez has a LOT to learn before he's ready to be an OC, at Northwestern
or anywhere else.
