Lots of sanctimonious and pompous BS at the press conference.
Stoops is a pipe dream - more likely they'll ruin Cincy's perfect season by releasing the hounds of speculation on Kelley all month.
Herbstreit was right on GameDay - Notre Dame is irrelevant. They haven't been a factor in the national scene since 1993.
Coincidentally (or maybe not), that's the first year of the present-day Big Ten configuration with Penn State joining.
Since then, the Big Ten has three different teams who have run the table at 12-0 and won (or should have won) national championships. We usually get two B(C)S entries. All home games are now televised and we are the leader along with the SEC in attendance and ratings.
Notre Dame had their chance to join and chose their path to irrelevance over their faculty's recommendation. Their loss.
Sorry Charlie.
Sorry Domers.
Looking back at 1993, it's pretty clear PSU made the right call and Notre Dame did not. They're going to run through that NBC money pretty quick if they keep buying out big contracts and paying off their new hiree's buyout clause. And if the Big Ten was smart, they'd cut 'em off from all but one of their meaningful football games each year by refusing to schedule them.
The best part of the article this morning may have been the part about the players' meeting today to decide whether they would want to play in the Motor City Bowl. Um, it's not like you have any options there, fellas. They apparently still have that arrogance and haven't learned their lesson yet.
Now, back to winning football teams who will be in more meaningful bowl games, it looks like we'll be playing Clemson unless they upset Tech this weekend. The Tigers will bring a lot of fans, but I like how we match up with them more than VaTech's Beamerball vs. our special teams or Miami's speed and home-state cockiness.
GO CATS!!!
