Great article in Trib today on Fitz.

Couple of key quotes.

After beating Iowa, Fitzgerald boldly stated he didn't consider the victory an upset. After Saturday's win over Wisconsin, he instructed the media to get its facts straight when reporting Northwestern's bowl-game appeal with alums.

"I guess it's bold, but I'm not trying to overstep my bounds or pound my chest. I'm just trying to state facts," Fitzgerald said. "Every time we win a ballgame around here, it's the other team didn't play well or they made mistakes. I'm just kind of sick and tired of it. We focus on ourselves, so I'm going to talk about us.

"If nobody else is, then who else will?"

"We're just getting started here," Fitzgerald said. "Two things we need to do: Continue to win ... and the next step is to fill Ryan Field up consistently."

(NU) has a coaching staff that has helped the Wildcats go 6-1 in games decided by seven or fewer points. It has the most valuable quarterback in the Big Ten, Mike Kafka, and a defense that embodies everything Fitzgerald did as No. 51. It has a program winning by valuing character as much as talent.

Amen

Jeff
