[NU Sports] Now THAT was a game!

If it really was just about talent, how do explain the success this group of too slow, too small, too smart, too lightly recruited kids had in November? They beat teams filled with blue chip recruits. Every team they beat has lower academic standards for their athletes. Every team they beat puts way more people in the stands than we do and probably has better facilities too.

Fitz believes that Northwestern can retain its standards and compete for a national championship. When asked why, he reminds people that the '95 Rose Bowl team was one loss away from being ranked #2 in the country.

That's because he sees strength in what others see as weakness. He knows that it is much more about belief, desire, and team than it is about stars. He also knows it's about integrity and delivering on the promise of a meaningful degree for those who put in the work.

It's his job to find the best smart football players in the country that can succeed in school and compete on the field, and then teach them how to win.

I can't think of a better guy.

I also can't think of any reason not to share his vision.

Jeff

Sorry. Didn't see any. Just well coached, pretty good players working their hearts out. I yearn to see well coached, really talented players playing their hearts out and beating Ohio State 35 - 10 in Columbus. A few of them this season, and we would be undefeated.

How's the air conditioning business going? Slow, I imagine. I'll have my next book hitting the Alibris and Amazon book shelves within two weeks, and this one is affordable. Look for Shattering the Truth: The Slandering of Abraham Lincoln.

May I breathe again? Two big plays on D in the clutch. Kafka smooth as a
baby's behind. Phillips one nasty mutha on D. Brewer looking unstoppable. We
actually RAN the ball! (No, I'm not kidding, although I wish we would have run
for four more yards after that fumble.) Not a perfect game but a fine one - and
damned exciting. GO CATS!! Now let's win a bowl game! What would Fitz do with
about a half-dozen highly talented players added to the mix?
