[NU Sports] 6-6 teams

Jim,

I'll post more on the bowl picture before too long over at HailToPurple, but
the rule is that bowls can only select 6-6 teams if there are
conference-affiliated bowls slots left for any remaining 7-5 teams. So,
theoretically, NU could be passed over for 6-6 teams, although I doubt bowls
would actually pull something like that. Note that last year the Alamo Bowl
could have selected Wisconsin over NU (the 1-game maximum jump rule only
applies for the Capital One and Outback Bowls), but they weren't even in the
running.

We'll have to see what the bowl committees decide because NU could
realistically end up anywhere from the Champs Sports down to the Insight and
theoretically even Detroit. A lot depends on the BCS at-large scenario, but
with Miami (FL) and USC losing, that definitely opens the door to Iowa
and/or Penn State (depending on how far Iowa falls today and if they can
both take care of business next week).
