[NU Sports] Basketball fantasy land

Regardless of uncertainties in the future, last night was a good one. There haven't been too many recent nights (or weeks, for that matter) when both the NU men's and women's basketball teams won. It happened last night. Both teams are 1-0.
Here are links to stories on each:

No doubt that it's going to be very tough for the men's team to live up to the (inflated?) expectations. But it's good to have the season underway, the team to root for and hopes for improvement and steady play. If Carmody can build on last year's progress, especially given Coble's injury (which is a real shame), it'll be a successful season.
No grandiose predictions, but the Cats' better balance could be cause for realistic optimism.

How about "winning games in the NCAAs" NU makes the tournament first?
Or actually wins a NIT game?
Or goes through an entire non-league season without the requisite embarrassing loss or two to Nowhere State Tech?
Or beats Penn State for once?
Or doesn't follow up the occasional impressive Big Ten win with two or three awful losses?
Or can hold double-digit second-half leads? (Illinois, Purdue, etc.)
Sorry, I am not a believer. For years upon years on this list I have heard that, yea, THIS is the year for NU hoops. Well, it's been years and it still hasn't been. And with Coble hurt it appears unlikely to be this year, either.
I hope I am wrong of course.
