Amazing what herniated disks in your back can do; I've been posting more in the past few days than I have all season! No honey-dos at least until the medication kicks in!
Steven: Good points about the recession being a factor as impacting attendance. My company has seen reduction in salary (me included) as well as under 40 hours per week for our hourlies, so guess what happened to going to Syracuse(6 hours north of where I live.)?...POOF up in smoke.
You cited Arizona St's lack of drawing people, and another poster pointed out that TCU can't fill their stadium, although I read an article at CBSSportsline that they've sold out their 1st game in 3 years. (vs. Utah this weekend.)
And as laborious as the subject is, it's still worth talking about, and shouldn't be dismissed. It's the reason why we get passed over; twice by the Outback Bowl to the Alamo, where we had Top 8 talent in Missouri and Nebraska waiting for us.
Its been pointed out that season ticket holders have been shuffled around, not to mention us yahoos who get off the "L", although my last game in Evanston was the 2005 opener vs. Ohio. The best ideas I've seen, and chimed in, are later starts and cheap seats Goal line-20 yard line and end zone seats, or a $regular-priced ticket that includes a hot dog, Coke and a program.
Having some one other than East Mich., Towson and Miami(OH>) would help. It wasn't too long ago we had Kansas and Arizona St.
Illinois: Any one know anything about this red-shirt QB? I know Juice generated the first 2 touchdowns, and the 2nd stringer moved them pretty well, but Minnesota nearly came back which tells me their defense figured something out, as they were behind 7-28, and lost 32-35.
Basketball: Bring it on! I watched NC and Syracuse tonight for a bit. Looking forward to Friday's game vs. Northern.

              GO CATS!! Eric

> On the heels of one of the best seasons in school history,
we can't get 20,000 NU fans in the seats for an average Big
Ten game. We probably didn't draw 25,000 NU fans to a night
We had more than 25K vs. PSU.
But seriously, I am just sick of the whole attendance talk -- we've put a darn
ood product on the field for 15 years with more bang for the buck than anywhere
lse with upsets and thrilling finishes, and if Chicago can't get on board with
hat, tough. Forget 'em!
Plus, I really think it's unfair to look at attendance numbers this year with
he economic downturn -- everyone's hurting this year. Sunday's Arizona Republic
ad a big article on how the Suns -- Arizona's most favorite of teams -- had
heir sellout streak broken despite a great start to the year ... and ASU, never
ble to fill their huge stadium despite having the largest student body in
merica and a huge local alumni base, is really struggling ... and how even the
iesta Bowl is in big trouble (and the tickets this year are renewable for next
ear's title game).
The NFL is even struggling to fill seats (and not just in Jacksonville) -- so
es, we have attendance woes, but this year is something that goes far beyond
he usual NU problems.
As for forming their own division, John did a pretty good job explaining why
his can't happen -- the big boys need the MACs and WACs to feast on for home
ames, money, stats and wins. Heck, what would Florida, Texas or Penn State do
f they could only play BCS league teams?:)
But I still think this is gonna be a veeeeery interesting BCS finish if TCU and
oise win out. Of course, Utah could save the embarrassment by topping TCU this
eek, so we'll see what happens.
GO CATS!!!
