[NU Sports] Basketball Coaches salaries

I would have to also add the rise of the sports agent to the list of forces raising coaches' and player salaries.
It is widely known around Baltimore that the present owner does not like to work with a certain agent because of past player negotiations where he thought he "lost" on the deal. It has led to the Orioles losing a chance at several top players, AND Jon Miller one of the best play by play guys in the business after he signed with this agent.
It is widely reported that a major league manager can effect maybe 12 games a season. I wonder if anyone has every analyzed play in basketball. Did Matta do a great job with dOSU last year, or was it the presence of the "rent-a-players?" Would dOSU won regardless of who was the coach?
Having coached kids (for no money), I can assure you that 50% of the time, they are out on their own agenda, trying to either avoid being noticed, or trying to win the game all by themselves. It is something that doesn't work well in football.
As for Basketball coaches in college - we ask these guys to work 7/24 recruiting, keep 12-14 guys out of any trouble, and administer a sports/entertainment program that raises up to 40% of a school's athletic budget - that's the money that pays for most women's and the rest of the men's sports programs including scholarships.
A good head coach in any sport is worth their salaries and bonuses but the Football and Basketball guys not only carry their team on their backs, but they also carry the rest of the sports programs on their backs'.
Anyway, I won't have surgery with the doctor that charges the lowest rate - you won't either.

Like it or not, the market sets the price. I won't argue that there aren't a lot of overpaid pros not to mention college coaches, but that is just the way it is in this environment.

That is actually an issue that has gotten some press here in Indiana
lately: The highest-paid state employee is Tom Crean. He makes more
than his boss, the AD; more than the presidents of IU or Purdue; more
than the governor of the state. And to make matters worse, though he no
longer shows up on the list of employees, the second-highest payout to
an individual went to Kelvin Sampson. The Pacers are crying about
losing money and asking for taxpayer help while paying millions to guys
who ride the bench. I don't think it will go anywhere, but there is a
vocal minority who is screaming about the choices that we are making as
a society when it comes to paying for sports. And though I don't agree
with them completely, they raise some good points.
