I wonder what the impact on Duke's basketball program recruiting iwas of the treatment the Lacrosse players got from the Duke faculty. Coach K pulled a Bushie and hid under his desk and said nothing either before or after the players had been cleared. That didn't say much for Coach K's character in my opinion.

The question was why we have had an 80 year bball drought. if the question is now what do we do to win in the BT, we already have our answer. We keep giving the ball to BC. The team this year came very close to having a winning record in the BT. It has taken a very long time for him to build the program to where it is, but it appears that he has a core of young players who have bought into his system and learned how to win. It also appears that he has assistants who can help him recruit more of those players for this system. Finally, it also appears that he is running a clean program and graduating his kids, which should be the bottom line expectation for all NU coaches. As far as what is required to build the program to the same level as MSU, I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. It would be comparable to asking what we need to do to build the football program to the same level as OSU. We have to look at our values (running a clean program where smart kids graduate) and figure out what we need to do to be consistently competitive. We need to see success with that goal for a long time before we can aspire to attract the sorts kids that Duke gets without cheating. What do they think is Izzo's secret to winning clean? MSU's football program by way of contrast has been marred by scandals over the years. Just a good memory for sports trivia. Most every school in the BT has been on probation for basketball recruiting violations in the past ten years. There are only three teams who haven't ever had a basketball recruiting violaton - Michigan State, Penn State, and Northwestern. Michigan State has a long history of basketball success and only eight teams have more final four appearances. So they don't need to cheat to get players. Penn State's basketball record isn't as sad as Northwestern's but their last trip to the tournament was 2001 and you have to reach back to 1954 for a team that made it to the final four. You are right that you have to get players to win. Over the past ten years, most of the schools in the BT cheated in order to get them. We don't win because we don't get the players. _______________________________________________ nwu-sports site list nwu-sports at tssi.com http://romaine.tssi.com/mailman/listinfo/nwu-sports
