In the midst of a basketball coaching discussion earlier today (why are so many?outstanding college coaches somehow tied to Kansas and Dr Naismith), I got to thinking about Pat Fitzgerald's 'coaching bloodlines' - they are pretty good, I must say:

1. Walter Camp, coach Yale 1888-91, founder of?college football
2. AA Stagg, All-American at Yale (1889), Coach Univ of Chicago 1892-1932
3. Fritz Crisler, played at Chicago 1920, Coach at?Minnesota 1930-31
4. Biggie Munn, played at Minnesota 1931, Coach at MSU 1947-53
5. Dan Devine, assistant at MSU 1950-55, Coach at Missouri 1957-70
6. Gary Barnett, played at Missouri 1969, coach at NU 1991-1998
7. Pat Fitzgerald, played at NU 1996, coach at NU 2006-

I'll have to look at BC and RW's histories next...but 6 degrees of separation from Walter Camp will be pretty tough to beat...
