[NU Sports] RE: Purdue win

One stunning statistic I saw (maybe at the start of the second half of the
Indiana or Iowa game) is that at that point NU was 1-5 when leading at the
half! I think that also means we must have been 13-6 or 14-6 when trailing
at the half. Really bizarre. -Joe

The first reader response at the site to Andy K's article and another one
below are two we can identify with:

I can't judge how NW compares to other bubble teams, but I love watching
them play. Their wins at MSU and Purdue were great TV. Their home losses to
PU and Ill were super drama, too. I doubt the committee takes
Cinderell-ability into account, but NW has it this year. I'm no NU fan, but
I'd be cheering for them all the way.

Northwestern: Andy - Dont forget the second half double digit leads @ Butler
and @ Penn State. Do you get any credit for having 4 other games against
good teams with double digit 2nd half leads? No one has wins like they do,
and road wins like they do, of the bubble teams. 2 more wins this yr and
they are a lock, have to be.

'Cats hoops fans should give this ESPN Andy Katz article a read:

With a win on Sunday, apparently NU will have positioned itself very well
for a tourney bid. We'll see, it should be exciting at the very least.

Northwestern enters the contest at Purdue with a 7-9 Big Ten record. In head
coach Bill Carmody's nine seasons in Evanston, the Wildcats have recorded at
least six Big Ten victories five times. The program totaled six or more
conference wins just five times in the previous 31 years prior to Carmody's
arrival.

Thought it worth repeating for those earlier this season who questioned
Carmody's ability as a coach.

The game was won last night;

1. when Carmody took out the starters, put in Nash, Williams, and Mirkovic
2. when Carmody switched from zone to man 3. when NU outrebounded Purdue 4.
when NU outscored Purdue in the second half by ten 5. when NU made it's last
four FT

The best coaches plan to have their teams playing their best basketball at
the end of the season. NU has just won three in a row. Last night was a
BIG win on the road against a team that destroyed us in the last five
minutes in our own house.

I think that most on this list would agree that, as a team, NU is playing is
best ball now. The team has improved in virtually every category that
earlier in the season cost us games. The players certainly deserve a lot of
the credit, but Carmody and his staff should get credit too.
