I share Ozzie's view of Wrigley, but that's the reason it will work.
Like it or not, we live in an event culture. Phillips is right. NU v.
Anybody in Wrigley in November is going to be a packed house. The big
things that are right about it outweigh all of the wrong things that you
have listed.
1. Wrigley = Chicago. As long as NU is playing somebody other than ND
or Illinois, the equation becomes NU = Chicago.
2. Wrigley + football = nostalgia = lots of free publicity for NU. The
return of football to Wrigley will get tied to the resurgence of
football at NU. It is an irresistible story that will remind a lot of
people who haven't been paying attention that NU is playing good
football these days.
3. Wrigley = North Side Fitz = South Side. This is also an
irresistible story. Hometown kid makes good. Tragic fate becomes
destiny. NU and Fitz make history again. It sends the message to every
Chicago kid that NU (not ND or Ill) is the place where smart football
players can change their lives. It also sets Fitz apart (like Joe Pa)
as a special guy that kids should think about playing for.
I hope it happens.

Jim Phillips keeps pursuing the idiotic 'game at wrigley' idea.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigten/0-3-611/Northwestern-continues-to-expl
ore-Wrigley-game.html
I can think of many reasons not to do this:
- Awful parking (and my parking pass will do me no good here, AND be
useful for one fewer game in Evanston)
- Our fans likely outnumbered by opposing fans (very likely liquored-up
after a few hours in wrigleyville)
- Surrounding neighborhood of bars and taverns is fitting for a pro
venue, but the college game should be surrounded by academic buildings
and sun-dappled trees
- Seats at Wrigley bound to have worse sight-lines than prime seats at
Dyche
- Crumbling concrete. inadequate bathrooms and?concessions at Wrigley
- Probably charge more for the game, especially with the new Cub buyers
taking on all sorts of debt.? Weren't the Blackhawk tickets $100 and up
?
And quite a few more come to mind.? Also, some of us South-siders were
raised to never venture north of North Avenue...(grin)
Hockey on a baseball field in mid-Winter is a great attraction -
Football on a baseball field in mid-November is a marriage made in
hell.? Don't forget how the infield can mess up several aspects of the
football game.
And won't the Wrigley neighbors, who try and limit all usage there
(night games, concerts), try and veto this idea ?
