If you have program A on ESPN or program A on ABC which gets the highest rating?
ABC will always get the highest ratings even if 100% of the people with TVs have cable/dish with ESPN.
Everbody can find the network stations by number, but not everybody knows the number of ESPN.
Either way as long as we live in Chicagoland and have season tickets we are highly unlikely to get cable/dish. For the away games we aren't attending we hit a bar or listen to them on WGN.
Unless ABC has alternate programming it can put on that will draw ratings or is using the Rose Bowl as a loss leader it makes no financial sense to put it on ESPN. Eyes are eyes for advertisements and 11 million ABC is better than 9 million on ESPN. Note: Numbers are made up.

This is all kind of much ado about nothing. One of the major pieces of the
ESPN family of networks is ABC. The contract does not say it will be on
ESPN. It says it will be on one of ESPN's networks. I am absolutely certain
that, just as they did with the NBA Finals, ESPN will put the BCS games on
ABC. Just thought before we contacted Congress, or rounded up a militia,
that should be pointed out.
