[NU Sports] Rose Bowl

It is much ado about nothing, but we don't have anything else to talk
about, so why not this?
As far as the BTN is concerned, I was skeptical at first, but now and
VERY happy to have it as part of my package. The Northwestern shows are
on my TIVO schedule. My wife doesn't understand what pleasure I get
from watching last year's Minny/NU game, for example, because I know how
it is going to turn out, but I just can't help myself. I tell her it is
the same thing that motivates her to watch re-runs of America's Next Top
Model. Besides, in rerun mode the game goes a lot faster without
timeouts and fewer commercials.
I suspect there are enough alums at every BT school who share this
feeling that the network is going to do just fine and provide an
additional long term source of revenue for NU athletics.
As far as the cable companies are concerned, there is a role for the
government to play whenever private companies are given exclusive rights
to public infrastructure. Whether it is exclusive rights to part of the
electromagnetic spectrum or exclusive rights to string wires and provide
services to communities, we own what they are renting and have a right
to control how they use it.

This is all kind of much ado about nothing. One of the major pieces of
the ESPN family of networks is ABC. The contract does not say it will be
on ESPN. It says it will be on one of ESPN's networks. I am absolutely
certain that, just as they did with the NBA Finals, ESPN will put the
BCS games on ABC. Just thought before we contacted Congress, or rounded
up a militia, that should be pointed out.
Cheers!
