[NU Sports] How about a Baseball series?

After I graduated I met a number of people who had grown up in the north shore during the 60's and 70's who rooted for the Cats because they remember their father taking them to games as a kid. Though I suspect only a few became hard core fans

Having grown up in Boston I rooted for BC but I only attended one game when they beat holy cross 5-3 (yes that was a football game)

Your experience proves the point.

The whole idea behind event marketing is the make the experience unique. A college football game at Wrigley would qualify.

If done right it will create more press than a "normal" game. It will attract people who wouldn't otherwise think of traveling to Evanston. Some will have a good enough time that they WILL give Evanston a try. Some will fall in love with NU in the same way you did.

QED

BTW winning will help a lot too.

Jeff

Let's be honest who actually goes to College Baseball Games?
Peoria played the Kane County Cougars last year but that is the first game I can remember being played at Wrigley for a long time.

As for Northwestern ever being a Chicago team that won't happen either. How many people do you meet that say they are Northwestern fans if they don't go to school there. And it really shows during the non-conference schedule when you can't get 20,000 in the place.

I grew up in the suburbs and my aunt went to Iowa, so we went to the NU-Hawks game every other year. I fell in love with the Wildcats. But for the most part I would say that is very rare.......

Actually it probably would be fairly cheap given that it is "found" money for
whomever will end up owning Wrigley. They make all of their money on watered
down beer anyway.

I like the idea. It will help establish NU as a Chicago team.

I love the concept.

Last year two Legion teams played a regular game in the Blue Rocks minor
league stadium. I think we drew about 500 fans for the game played on a
Sunday afternoon (in 95 degree heat).

Of course because of the funding of the park, we can play a game there for
$100. I doubt Wrigley would be that "cheap"

FWIW - the Big 10 Saturday games are all double headers. That would be a
trip.

On alternate years:
vs. Wisconsin at Wrigley and Miller
vs. MSU at Wrigely and COMA
vs. Purdue at Wrigley and Cell
vs. Ill-whine-I at Wrigley and Cell
vs. Rice at Wrigely and Minute Maid
vs. Stanford at Wrigley and Candlestick's replacement
vs. BC at Wrigley and Fenway -- that would be a draw!!!!

I actually like the Wisconsin one the best, but for total BANG the BC series
would be pres galore and since neither of us draw squat in regards to fans
it might improve attendanced.
