... so we don't have to mention basketball.
Same old story, depressing, dismal, etc. That's 3 leads at the half of BT games ... and an 0-4 record. This team will be lucky to win 2 BT games, at least one of which they will win on freakily good 3-point shooting one night, which will raise hopes slightly and then NU will lose 76-45 the next time out when the shooters cool off.
There's just zero mental toughness around NU hoops. The '93-'94 NU team had some - remember that wacko win against red-hot Michigan at WR? -- and that's about the last time I can remember any. When adversity hits hoops, they fold.
Compare to football's great comebacks over the last decade-plus to see what mental toughness is all about. It's not about, for example, missing layups on 3-on-1 fast breaks, blowing assignments to leave 3-point shooters wide open and making 1 of 2 free throws SIX STRAIGHT TIMES in the second half (plus blown one-and-one).
I won't even mention rebounding since nobody must at NU practices. I can live with no getting offensive rebounds, but you can't give teams like Perdoo second shots all the time.
If this is what hoops looks like after a great recruiting class, I hate to see what will happen after a bad one.
Looks like 60 straight years without an NCAA bid.
