Keeping this apolitical - I have found that most of the in-depth reporting that?I happen across is found in magazines, not newspapers.? I realize that magazines charge more than 50 cents,?but it is refreshing and informative?to read 6-8 page articles on a day in rural Afghanistan, or a clinic in Somalia, whatever your political bent.
It seems that when I was younger, the Chicago Tribune had more stories like these, now they don't seem to anymore.? I know that foreign (and even domestic) bureaus have been slashed by the papers, and this has to have contributed to the lack of in-depth reporting.
Having said that, newspaper coverage of our sports, particularly college football and basketball, is better than what we get locally on TV?(mainly pro oriented), and better than?what ESPN tries to feed us.? The luxury of a beat writer like Jim O'Donnell or Len Ziehm hanging around practice is a great thing to have - I hope it somehow survives into whatever replaces newspapers.

I wasn't talking about politics but media bias. I'm a long way from the first to say it.?
