[NU Sports] Jeremy Maclin To Turn Pro

I doubt that his performance at the Alamo Bowl had much impact on him going
pro - except for reaffirming what everyone already knows, which is that he's
a very talented receiver with excellent speed.

Remember that the NFL has a rule in place that one must be at least 3 years
removed from high school to go pro - in other words, a redshirt sophomore
(like Maclin) or true junior (this all came about after the Clarett
debacle).

And a lot depends on what the NFL draft evaluation committee comes back with
in each case - anyone who would be a first day pick (first 2 rounds) should
basically come out given the large amounts of guaranteed money (signing
bonuses) given to those in the first 2 rounds. While I am personally of the
opinion that one should stay in college and finish the degree, I completely
understand coming out early and taking the money, especially considering the
high risk of injury in a sport such as football which could significantly
reduce one's value if they choose to stay another year (not to mention the
chance of a lower level of performance).
