[NU Sports] Basketball (ugh!)

Agree about Indiana not being checked off as "wins". They dominated a good Michigan team last night for 30 minutes... before blowing a 20 point lead to lose in OT.

MSU, Wisc, and perhaps Purdue (when Hummel/Kramer return to lineup) excluded, it seems like the other 7 teams are going to take turns beating each other up thru the conference schedule. It will be hard for 'Cats to win (m)any except on days/nights when the 'Cats are shooting very well and the other team is shooting very badly.

As I have said in the past, if we are to break the cycle of futility
vis-a-vis Mens Hoops, our administration and AD need to think "out of the box" and
hire somebody like a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar--i.e., a Head Coach who will (a) put
us on the proverbial "map", in terms of visibility and (b) bring impeccable
credentials to the table for recruiting purposes. I really think an
ex-NBA'er, who grasps the academic imperatives at NU, could succeed where others have
failed. I am truly disappointed in where the Carmody Era seems to be
heading, as I was quite excited when he was first hired. I think at this point we
need a change, if for no other reason than for change's sake--i.e., the
"Princeton Offense" is simply played out in terms of how BT teams defend us (as
others have stated on the List many times), and there is no way out of this
morass with the current structure.

By the way, I am not as sanguine as others have suggested that the two
Indiana games are "probable" wins. Tom Crean is a darn good coach and motivator.
I would bet we will be lucky to split the two games, as Crean will probably
point out to his players that NU represents their best chance to win two
league games!:-) And if the home crowd at Assembly Hall loudly backs their
Hoosiers, anyone really think the 'Cats should be favored?
