Big deal. So we have fewer bowl-eligible teams, and fewer bowls over all. All we lose is the lesser bowls, and we would have none of the Georgia vs. Hawaii silliness like last year.
And you're right: We would also have better non-conference games, with fewer of the traditional powers opening their season by paying four patsies to come play them at home. THAT is something I think we could all support.
I think the bottom line is that we can't continue to allow more and more programs to join I-A football and still whine because the system of declaring a champion isn't perfectly "fair". Something has to give. All the ridiculous proposals for a 16-team playoff still can't get around the fact that, unlike the NFL, the I-A conferences will persist in having huge, systemic, disparities in strength.
> How on earth would you get 40 bowl-eligible teams out of (at most) only 66 schools? Remember, games against "Whiners" would be severely restricted in such a scenario. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for...
