[NU Sports] In this season of coaching rumors and changes

The management of the Bears has never forgiven George Halas for dying.
If he hadn't moved on to the big "press box in the sky," he'd still be
walking the sidelines at Soldier Field.
The problem with following a legend is living up to the Legend....
Rsl
FWIW - the still argue about Jerry Jones' firing of Tom Landry, the only
coach the Cowboy every had for 20+ years. Funny that the Pokes' haven't
played as consistently since he did.

Though I love the Bears, I wouldn't wish their coaching job on my worst
enemy.
- The ownership seems to mismanage them all the time.
- The current General Manager has wasted plenty of high draft picks on guys
who aren't even in the game anymore.
- With one exception, coaches have not come to the Bears to achieve
greatness
(read Jim Dooley, Abe Gibron, Neil Armstrong, Wanny, even Lovie (people are
very mad that Lovie dumped?85 Bear Ron Rivera, who?coordinated the D that
beat Peyton Manning and survives in the playoffs - while Lovie brought in
'pal' Bob Babich, who has made the Bear defense pretty ordinary)
- And that one exception is Ditka - who, 23 years after that Super Bowl, is
still larger than life in Chicago, dominating?TV, Radio, and even
restaurants.? He also has a huge national presence on TV and Radio
('America's Coach' on Westwood One).? Succeeding the legend of Ditka will be
a tough task for any mortal.
- That, and NFL coaches pretty much are hired to be fired...ask?Eric
Mangini, Mike Shanahan, etc.
Chuck Herron?? Tech '85??

Isn't it nice to believe that Coach Fitz won't leave at least until BOTH of
the following occur: (1) NU gets into a BCS game (preferably the Rose) and
(2) the Bears are in need of a new head coach. And, maybe not even then.
