[NU Sports] Carmody job security

I was a former Carmody supporter - until after last season at which time I
promptly jumped off of the bandwagon. Yes, he is a stand-up guy who runs
the program the right way but the fact is that his greatest success came
during the first 4 years of his tenure at NU - and even then NU couldn't
make it to the postseason. And yes, he's probably the most successful BB
coach in recent NU history - but that isn't saying much by a long shot.
The fact is that every year that mythical postseason trip is "a year away."
We've seen his young recruits hit the floor year after year only to plateau,
drop off, or leave the program in subsequent seasons. And we've also seen
the famous Princeton offense fail NU time and time again - defenses know how
to adjust and force NU into taking long 3-pointers, and although NU has some
decent shooters, that just isn't the way to be successful in an entire
season.
If NU were to get a new head coach that runs a more traditional offensive
scheme, there would be an immediate drop-off since the current players are
suited for the Princeton system, but I would argue that things just aren't
getting any better now and it's time for a change. 8+ seasons has been
plenty of time to bring in multiple sets of recruiting classes and teach the
offensive scheme, but the results aren't there. As one can see with Duke,
Stanford, Vandy, etc. there is no excuse not to field a respectable, if not
very good, BB team even as a small academic-centered institution.
I'm not a proponent of mid-season firings at the college level, so if
Carmody doesn't deliver this year he should be out the door. There is
really no excuse any more.
