NO WAY!

Financially men's basketball is a big net positive.

Any conference worth joining - Ivy League maybe would increase(travel) the costs while decreasing the revenue(TV and gate receipts).

If we joined a "local" league Horizon for example basketball would quickly become irrelevant and might as well be dropped.

I still don't think we would make the tournament in the Horizon league. Our current players yes, but after a few years of Horizon-league quality recruiting and our academic standards we would be middling in that conference with no margin for error -- only 1 tourney team.

The only way I see it if we dropped basketball entirely, which would only come after the rest of the conference disgraced themselves academically ala Indiana and Minnesota repeatedly.

However I think if we don't make the dance in 2010 we should at least expect .500 in conference. If we can't achieve that, could we or should we ever consider dropping out of the conference in hoops ? I assume its legal as ND essentially does it
