Well said - I think we got a little excited and ahead of ourselves earlier with the MSU win. I usually try and stay out of the BB discussions because I'm not as big a follower of the team, but I think the same philosophy applies as for football - we have to build our program gradually as the quick leaps are usually followed by a quick fall (or sanctions :) ).
I guess I'm not as hung up on the 8 years Carmody's been here because it's a monumental task to build up basketball at NU. The questions I would have are: (1) Are we moving in the right direction and (2) Are we getting close.
I think this season has been a yes on both counts - and as Eric mentions, unlike the 1994 team, it's not something happening with seniors in their final few games finally coming together. I've been tuning in to a lot more games than in past years and not just because the Big Ten Network is freakin' AWESOME for alumni living outside of Big Ten Country.
Last night was sickening. So was Purdue. We still have to get over that last-minute panic to close out wins. But it is worth keeping in mind that Purdue and Illinois are top 20 teams and we lost at the last second (the loss at Iowa should upset us more, if you think about it).
I know it's been a long dry spell and I know it's frustrating to get so close and then have it fall apart in seconds ... but if we've endured this far but we can see that the promised land is in sight now where it wasn't before, do we really want to go back to square 1 and start the game over?
GO CATS!!!
