I mostly agree, but PSU should be moved down to tier 2. They have not been that good, excluding this year, sugar bowl year, and 1994.

Purdue should be moved up to tier 2 until we determine whether Tiller was the equivalent of Mallory. It was a mistake for IU to get rid of Mallory as they have not had any success from the subsequent 5 coaches. Forcing out Tiller could be death of Purdue football.

Even Wisconsin might just now be seeing the long-term effects of Alvarez moving upstairs.

This is pretty random - but I see three Big Ten tiers

OSU/PSU/Michigan (not this year, of course) - expected to contend for the title every year

MSU/Iowa/NU/Wisc - sometimes challenge for first, consistently make a bowl

IU/PU/Minny/Illinois - inconsistent bowl teams

I think it is amazing that we are kinda/sorta gaining membership in tier 2

Is it realistic to hope for membership in that top tier ?

I yearn for something a little simpler: to see NU as a serious contender for a
CONFERENCE championship every year.

I know there are differing camps on this list about BCS/MNC/playoffs and so on,
but me, I am simply happy to see the conference championship trophy in the
Nortwestern Athletic Department as often as possible. If it has repercussions
beyond that, fine, but don't think for a minute that I would rather travel to
Miami for some BCS/MNC/playoff 'national championship' instead of Pasadena..

And if that makes me a loser, well, pour honey on me and bury me in an ant hill
'cause I'm guilty and I don't wanna be innocent.

GO 'CATS!

They are if we're ever to be a serious contender for a national
championship. Any goal lower than that is that of a loser. There are very
good students who happen to be also very good football players. I yearn to
see a recruiting class with some five-stars on it.
