While the transition for Penn State has not always been smooth, and  
although many of us in the East regret that PSU's natural rivalries with 'Cuse,  
Pitt, W.Va. and others have been left in the dustbin of history, the fact  
remains that the Nits integration into the BT has reaped benefits for both the 
 prior 10 schools and JoePa U.  They have been worthy opponents on many of  
the athletic battlefields, and, perhaps of equal importance, have given the 
BT a  footprint in the Eastern Seaboard television markets (NYC, Philly, 
Boston,  Baltimore, Washington) that it would otherwise not have had.  JoePa 
has  brought luster and honor to the Conference, and when he finally departs 
the  scene, we shall not see his like again (unless, of course, Fitz can 
fill the  bill:-)).  So taking any gratuitous shots in the direction of Happy 
Valley  would not seem to be appropriate.  In fact, I am looking forward to  
hopefully seeing Fitz's young men play there next Fall--less than an hour 
from  where my son is matriculating (at Bucknell); he and I have a father/son 
event  planned for the occasion.
 
I head down to Longboat Key tomorrow.  Less than 11 days to  kickoff!
