[NU Sports] Outback surprise ...

Like everyone else, I am in shock--a happy shock.:-) I figured that by crushing Hawaii the Badgers had locked up the Outback, but, as noted, Jim Phillips and Fitz really argued our case well. I told everyone I was impressed with Phillips when he came to Sports Night in NY some time ago. He is dynamic and forward-looking, and I think he gets the economics angle better than many AD's.

I will see y'all in Tampa. The 'Cats have to now hold the (Auburn) Tigers by the tail. If we can somehow manage to beat a storied SEC team like Auburn, and win our first bowl in 60 years, it would be monumental. The key is to be healthy and for our "D" to continue to stop the run, like they did vs. Bucky. Auburn has always been a rushing power. Also, Auburn may not be that familiar with a spread attack and hurry-up offense like we have with Kafka. Hopefully we can pile up some yardage, move the sticks and rack up some points. Anybody know whether Brendan Smith will be back for the game?

Fun indeed, of course curdheads from Wisconsin are always unhappy and the
rednecks from Auburn scratch a lot of places, being well known for the
lowest academic standards in the SEC. As Alabama fans say "hate Auburn early,
beat the rush"

Should be fun to watch the message boards ... Wisconsin's already starting
to fume and Auburn's scratching their heads about who exactly Northwestern
is and how both of us are surprising choices.
