Hold on a second. The only way we could get snubbed by both the Outback and the Champs is if the Big Ten does not get 2 teams into the BCS. In that event, we could fall to the Alamo, but no lower, and it's generally expected that the Champs would still pick us.
If we get two teams in the BCS, the Outback will have to choose between NU and Wisconsin. If they don't select us, the Champs will be forced to select us. They are obligated to choose the best remaining team or a team within 1 win/loss of the best remaining team. The next best Big Ten team is 6-6, so they would have to choose us.
If we don't get two teams in the BCS, then the Outback will go to either Iowa or Penn State (whichever team the Cap One bowl does not select). Then the Champs will have to select either NU or Wisconsin. Since Wisconsin was in the Champs last year, and in Orlando 3 of the past 4 years, it's thought that the Champs would pick NU. But if not, we would fall to the Alamo, but no lower.
The selection rules are complicated, and each bowl lives by different rules based on their deal with the Big Ten, so there are some other scenarios you could imagine, but these are the most likely scenarios.
This post from last year provides some interesting details on some of the selection rules:
