John-great pick-up. As a former naval officer and devoted reader of Naval
History, I enjoyed the article.
Slight clarification-Hagan was not the commanding officer of the destroyer
Johnston at Samar-he was the gunnery officer. During that battle she was
commanded by LCDR Ernest Evans, who won the Medal Of Honor (posthumous) for
his actions.

For anybody who would like further information I highly recommend Jason
Hornsfischer's book "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors", which came out
a few years ago. Excellent description of an heroic, tragic morning.
