I'm pretty sure he was on the field in the Big 10 coverage.
Also, I made it up to Kenosha for the scrimmage on Saturday, and Browne was suited up and I believe played just a bit. Most of the starting defense was not suited up, and it was pretty amazing to realize we had the makings of a very good defense just with the guys who got the day off. The 2nd and 3rd stringers out on the field looked pretty good as well.
Kafka only played briefly, looked pretty good except for an INT returned for a TD (Ben Johnson on the INT I believe, remember that name).
Persa looked very impressive--some beautiful throws despite a very strong window. Saw some good things from the running backs. I don't know whether Arby Fields will work his way up to the top of the rotation, but I liked what I saw from him in particular.
I feel a lot more comfortable with our receiving corps as well--they looked good for the most part. And if you are not familiar with the name Zeke Markshausen yet, you soon will be. He was very impressive (also looked good on that Big 10 show). A few guys failed to reel in some passes that could have been roped in--that will need to improve.
Best moment of the scrimmage: one of the freshman linebackers (I believe it was Roderick Goodlow) delivered a crushing blow on an RB right at the line. Sent the RB flying backwards, and the sent the ball flying even further backwards. Corey Wooten took advantage of the ensuing timeout to walk out on the field and congratulate him personally. I go the sense there is a lot of enthusiasm and leadership at work among the players.
Looking forward to the season opener.
Tom
