[NU Sports] sports coverage

The AP has a policy now that they cover all Division I football games.
Given that the membership of the AP is rebelling at the wire service's high prices, and that many papers are becoming more dependent.on the AP, I doubt the AP would cut back on that level of service right now.
However, lower levels of football have been slashed: in Pennsylvania the AP used to do 4-5 graphs on D-II and III games -- no more. That's hurt small-college coverage.
What I definitely think will happen is that NU will get less coverage in the dailies in Chicago. I don't think they will stop covering home games, and a winning NU team will, I suspect, be covered on the road, but if the 'Cats are 2-6 and at Minneapolis, State College or East Lansing, bring on the AP. Also day-to-day coverage will drop off.
That's not good, because no one will replace it. I get tired of people saying "I get my news from the Internet" as if it's Magic News that is produced from thin air. Many, many times the "Internet news" comes from a newspaper or the AP. And almost every electronic media outfit depends on newspapers to give them ideas.
Finally, I agree with Mr. Bendat on right-wing loon chants: anyone who calls the NY TImes "Marxist" simply doesn't have the faintest Idea what "Marxism" really is. And ask any true "leftist" if they see the Trib as their ally and watch them break out in hysterical laughter.
