It isn't surprising. First, the Trib goes left politically, which wasn't hard to do after Bertie McCcormick then sells out to the tasteless clown whose name fortunately escapes me for the moment. Then, the Trib and the new owner put a financial package together that virtually guarantees that the employees will get screwed financially. It is unfortunate that the sports writers become the casualties of the financial engineering that takes place in these kinds of takeovers that have become too common. If the New York Marxist Times didn't have a a financial structure that precludes any kind of a takeover, that paper would have been taken over too. The Detroit papers seem t have found a way to survive for the time being by limiting home deliveries as a cost reduction and using the internet to publish the Freep and the Detroit News.
