[NU Sports] old subject revisted

I'm sure that if NU's AD went to the "powers that be" at the Crown center
and started talking about Div I varsity hockey there, NU could get another
shot at using the ice.

But Beinen is right - hockey can be pretty expensive, what with all the
equipment needed to outfit a team, probably close to that needed for
football. Title IX would require a women's team, and we'd have to expect to
get clobbered for a few years in the Big 10 until the recruiting got going.

Hockey is a natural Big 10 sport but if we're going to add another team
short term, Men's Lacrosse would get us into the Northeast recruiting fray a
lot faster.

Anyway, all you need is cash, or a big donor with lots of cash...

Btw somebody asked the question about varsity hockey at a basketball event
of Bienen and he pooh-pooh-ed it mostly by cost.  Without an on-campus rink
and the fact that not only is Robert Crown in Evanston a dump, but our team
got kicked out a decade ago due to alcohol does not lend itself to varsity
hockey.
