Good points, Tom.
Yes, watching the game yesterday on DVR, it seemed to me that the biggest
problem we have as a team is the O-line. C.J.'s decision-making was not so
great at times, of course, and that didn't help things, but decision-making
should be relatively easily correctable and we all know what C.J. can do
when he's on. Let's just hope he got all of the bad stuff out of his system
on Saturday. The offensive line, though, is more troubling to me, because
if we can't get big enough holes or enough pass protection, we won't go very
far, obviously. I also worry about our depth at running back. Who do we
have behind Conteh? A sophomore and three freshmen (two redshirt and one
true) by my tally, none of whom have much if any game experience. Who's
next in line--Simmons, maybe? I was excited about Concannon when he
committed a couple of years ago but I haven't really heard much about him
since then. Here's hoping Tyrell is up to full speed again quickly.
Now, hand-wringing about the offense aside, isn't it fun to have a solid
defense and special teams again? I love our D-line! Vince Browne was
incredible on Saturday (and much deserving of the Big Ten Player of the Week
honors I just saw he was awarded). Malcolm Arrington seems to be continuing
our proud tradition of outstanding linebackers, and the secondary looks as
athletic as it has been in at least a decade, yielding only one passing TD
in four games--not bad!
Go 'Cats!

Yeah, he went down around the line of scrimmage on the punt coverage team.
They worked on his knee for quite a while and we walked off (with help) very
gingerly. He spent the whole rest of the game sitting on one of the training
tables.
He seems like one of the few Cat receivers with enough speed to stretch
defenses down the field, so I hope he is able to get back out there soon.
It's been a weird year for the offense so far. I think the biggest issue is
that the O-line just isn't opening up many big running holes, and the pass
protection against Ohio was pretty poor.
But none of the receivers have been overly impressive this year. They've
dropped some of CJ's better throws in key situations, and seemed to have
trouble getting open against Ohio. Meanwhile, CJ certainly hasn't been as
sharp as he was at times the past couple of years.
I get the feeling Ohio's defense is pretty good, but I just have no feel yet
for how the Cats offense is going to fare against the Big 10. They clearly
need to play better. Really hope Sutton can come back soon.
Tom
