Can you believe this? After years of offense first, defense a distant
second, and special teams...what special teams.... we have a team winning with
maximum defensive effort and stellar special teams. Who would have thunk it?
2nd half offense: OK, Sutton was out ; I'm assuming he'll be OK for
Iowa. My problem with McCall's play selection with Conteh is that he's not very
good running misdirection or end arounds. He's a north-south guy ; give him
the damn ball and have him hit the hole in a hurry, like the 16 yard gain in
the 4th Q. In the 2nd half, twice the offensive line provided a seam for
Omar, but he's not a cut-back runner like Tyrell. And the misdirection plays
that we kept on running...ugh!
The offensive line wasn't too good all day, and Bacher stunk. Of course
the only 2 drops of the day occurred on 3rd down, and a catch would have meant
a first down. (Sutton in the first half and Ward in the 2nd half.) And
where was Andrew Brewer?
Good side: Sutton looked good (not great) before his injury. Villareall
has been dead-on, and he nailed a 46 yarder today? Vince Browne cloned
himself, and McManis played terrific.
So we win on defense and special teams? Or can our offense (we NEED
Sutton) get straightened out during conference play? Now that's a story line I
wouldn't have expected being 4-0.

          GO CATS!!! Eric
