I complained about the hook-up and coverage on the Webcast and was told my $6 would be refunded!. For what it's worth. GO NU.

I was stuck with the Duke commentators on XM while driving back from southern
Illinois.

First of all Northwestern has a TH that need to be pronounced! It is not
Nor-western.

Secondly they had no clue about their own players or the yardage line and most
of the time did not even attempt to call our player.

My big complaint with Eanet is making a call without mentioning a flag until
after the play is over e.g. a long pass play with an early flag in the
backfield, but each time I hear somebody other crew I realize Dave is the best.

know what game they were watching.? They also made mention once of a small NU
contingent.? Glad to hear the Purple and White were well-represented.

Not sure if this was apparent on the radio or webcast, but something looked
odd in the last possession of the first half.

- on the first play, it looked like Sutton got out of bounds. Yet the
scoreboard clock appeared to keep running.

- on the next play, Sutton got the first down, and still the clock kept
running.

- It looked like the first clock stoppage was when we called a time out.

- Also, did anyone think we should've tried a really quick pass with 6
seconds to go in the half ? Was the CJ slide play simply to get between the
hashmarks ? Or did we have time for one quick pass to the corner ?

I also didn't hear at the game - was it a Big Ten crew ? Duke has mostly
brought (incompetent) ACC crews to their games in Evanston. Did Eanet say
which kind of crew we had ?

It was pretty dry out there - the sun was out and it was hot much of the
day. It must've been 80 degrees and 80% humidity during the game - and not
even
a hint of a breeze.

Great NU contingent at Wallace Wade, by the way - maybe 20% ? We occupied
almost one quarter of the stadium, though we were kind of spread out, and
contributed a lot of noise.

I think Duke is a better team than last year ... but we still should have
won by more. Still, get the win and get home. We'll take it.:)

Around the league, Minnesota's win was impressive. No
t so much the offense
(we knew they'd be decent) but the defense. Hard to get much of a read on
teams like Purdue and Indiana with the competition, but it looks like the
middle
of the pack in the Big Ten is going to be quite competitive this year.

Next week things step up for the league with the two big games in California
for the Bucks and Bucky, Big
Blue's Notre Dame game and the intriguing
Oregon @ Purdue matchup.

As for us, just get the win. The Ohio game the following week will be
interesting, but we can't look ahead of the Salukis.

I received a response from the techs at CSTV as to why I could not access
the webcast last night. It seems they do not support IE7. Their
recommendation was to reinstall IE6. Maybe they should
consider downgrading
to a punch card system.

Indeed, it was a Big Ten officiating crew, but, I believe the home team
provides the official timekeeper, so all of the whining from Duke about the
clock (especially late in the game) should have been directed at their own
guy. Remember that the clock rules did change, though, and for out of
bounds plays the clock is supposed to stop until the ball is set, and then
start again (except inside the last 2 mins of each half). Anyways it did
look like there were some issues with the clock and with the new clock rules
that timekeeper has a lot to worry about very quickly.

Will leave Durham for home shortly but must add a note of genuine distress
and anxiety about NU football. Duke is improved this year but is nothing
close to the Big Ten teams the Cats will face this year. The Blue Devils
out-played and out-coached Northwestern in every way except the final score.
The
bad punt snap was probably the difference in the game, but as the stats showed,

NU sputtered on offense and the NU defense at times looked absolutely
helpless. Indeed, the only NU pass defense evident last night were a few
errant
Duke quarterback throws, which if completed also would have spelled doom for
the Cats. The NU secondary is falling back into its old ways of leaving too
much separation from the receivers.

Yes, we had a good defensive stop at the end and got the W, but no one
should have any illusions or great confidence now about the rest of the season.

The Cats have a long way to go to deal with a tough Big Ten schedule (and
perhaps even SIU and Ohio). I once hoped for 8-4 this year, but my
expectations
have dropped to 6-6 and m
ay sink further in the next two weeks.

Two monkeys in the press box and one holding the camera could have done a
better job than the 'shmos doing our game last night. I turned the bozos off
and watched the game while I listened to Eanet and Albrecht. Still, what is 6
bucks any more? It's nothing. If it would have been 10-15 bucks or higher,
than that would be grounds for some serious whining.
2-0. Music to our ears! GO

The Big Ten Network guys said that it was the first time the Big Ten went 11-0
since 2006 -- so really not too long ago at all.

Cast off IE6 or IE7 and get a good functional browser - I downloaded Firefox
(_www.firefox.com_ (http://www.firefox.com) ) last week (after constant
lectures from my PC savvy friends) and I hope to never see Internet Explorer

again.

As one who has to help support several web servers, IE has been a major
headache for web developers for years, they tend to interpret standards
in whatever way suits them, and not consistently between releases, either.
Many web developers wound up writing a separate module to handle IE7 issues.

I'm almost afraid to find out what they've broken in IE8, which I think
is still in beta.

I argued with Microsoft for several years trying to get them to acknowledge
a flaw in how they handle cookies, with no success. (AFAIK, that flaw
is still there, I've told the users of that non-public web server
that they have to use Firefox if they experience that problem.)

But even worse than IE7 is the customized IE browser for AOL users.

I'll be curious to
see how Google's browser works. For the most part
their software has been pretty bug free, their email interface (gmail)
has the best anti-spam filtering software I've run across.
