[NU Sports] Steven's bowl scenario

I'll second that.

I'm always amazed at how a backup QB forced into a game by injury can look
so inept, then - with a week of reps - come in and put on a show.

Want proof? We faced just such a QB Saturday.

Kafka is a proven runner, and with Conteh, we just might see some different
looks and he can always flip it to Peterman for the long bomb.

BTW - the Ravens put Troy Smith and Flacco in the backfield together Sunday.
Flacco gave the ball to Smith and went down field to catch a long pass. Not
bad for a couple of early in their career players.

NU's best bet is to win at least one more (remember, there ARE win-able
games on the remaining schedule: particularly 2-6 Michigan and 4-4 Illinois,
and don't discount Minnesota either) to get that all-important 7th win. The
bowls MUST select teams with a winning record over those with a .500 record,
and it's looking more and more like the Big Ten may have at least 1 or 2 6-6
teams (Wisconsin and Illinois, quite possibly).

NU has won without Sutton before. Bacher's hamstring injury is another
issue, but now is the time for someone to step up. This isn't the end of
the world: a win over Minnesota would put the 'Cats right back in the middle
of the Jan. 1 bowl picture.
