How does the coaching staff permit any of our guys to assume anybody would
be 'easy pickings' ?

Fitz and Peterman pretty much summed it up, this team doesn't yet trust
themselves.
They figured that Indiana was going to be easy pickings. When that turned
out not to be the case, they couldn't match indiana's intensity because in the
end the game meant way more to Indiana than it did to our guys.
As far as injuries are concerned, Indiana kids were coming off the field
almost every series, but they never quit. In comparison, the TV sideline person
commented on how subdued our team was with plenty of time left in the 4th.
Fitz has got a lot of work ahead of him to prevent this from becoming a full
on MSU-style second half collapse.

I am not willing to totally blame the offense for falling apart against an
inspired Indiana team that seemed to have the speed to close in on many of
our slower developing plays.
The Hoosiers had watched a lot of film and knew exactly how and where each
of our standard plays would develop. After the first drive, they put a
player on Sutton, stepped up their coverage, and brought pressure from the
inside. We could put a couple of plays together and move down the field, but
they pounded Tyrell until his wrist gave out, then pounded Bacher until his
leg went also.
Sutton and Bacher were having trouble with handoffs all game - not sure why,
but if Tyrell hurt his wrist, that's a good place to start the analysis.
Brewer was still finding his way, and Peterman seemed to catch the dropsies
in the 2nd half. Indy was able to play coverage that covered all of the
receivers.
In any case, the D played well enough to win this game, altho we maybe
played a little too loose.
Still, we hold on to the ball, punch in one more TD and we come away with a
narrow win over a team that is regaining confidence and injured starters.
I was frustrated watching, and am really worried if CJ is done for a couple
of games. I'm encouraged that Ill-noise managed to get beat again.

If NU finishes 6-6, that means they finish with 5 straight losses,
and Detroit is probably the best they deserve anyway.
Obviously a lot depends on the condition of Bacher and Sutton.
Conteh seems to fill in reasonably well and has alternated with Sutton
quite a bit, but Kakfa is still the inconsistent player he was in 2006.
(Without much playing time, why would anyone expect otherwise?)
Hopefully this team isn't done yet, but Fitz has his work cut out for him
now with four difficult games left on the schedule.
