[NU Sports] OUTBACK BOWL FORCAST

I can look out my office window and see Ford Field, so I can say with
some authority that those of you who haven't been to downtown Detroit
since the last MC Bowl will be pleasantly surprised. Within the
four-mile or so people mover circle, this has become a pretty lively
city. Lots of nightlife, casinos, restraints, music, culture, etc.
It's the same sort of gentrification that you see in most big cities
these days (younger people moving into lofts, rehabbing old houses, and
buying high rise condos), but I never would have imagined that it would
happen here. It is still in its infancy, but this progress has happened
while Michigan has been going through a full fledged recession for the
past couple of years. When the economy gets going here and in the rest
of the country, things could really take off.

Jeff

ESPN has us playing Kansas or OkieState in the Alamo Bowl. Please NO.
San Antonio was a big dog in my book. The attractions, food, venue, and
the weather were crap. We would probably stay in Corpus Christi and
drive up just for the game.

I am still unhappy about the Outback snub that got us exiled to San
Antonio.

Regardless of where Northwestern ends up we will be there.
Here is my dream list:
Rose Bowl -- PSU and NU win out. They go to Miami we go to Pasadena.
Insight -- I like AZ over Florida
Citrus, Outback, Champs -- I wish there was still a Miami based bowl,
because that would be preference over Orlando/Tampa. Otherwise it would
depend on the matchup, because a bowl win is important.
Motor City Bowl -- Detroit is an easy destination even if it is not easy
on the eyes Alamo -- see diatribe above

I think if we beat everybody and lose either dOSO or Michigan we get the
Citrus Bowl, lose one more and it is the Outcast bowl or the Champs, but
we got to beat Minny, they would have a great turnout here, they all
spend the winter in Florida anyway.
