[NU Sports] No comment on a couple of articles?

Losing is the primary reason for coaching changes. A distant second is embarrassing the institution through problems with players, NCAA, or coaches. Finally, a fairly small number of successful coaches leave for greener pastures and bigger stages.

PF might get a little more slack on wins and loses, but I think he is likely to be held to a higher standard on "embarrassment" issues.

I agree that he likes the prospect of being a coach for life, but don't kid yourself to think that he doesn't have number. Virtually everyone with ambition has a number in one form or another. As others have said, PF's number might be facilities and staff salary more than his own comp, but it represents a number none the less and an indication of commitment from the administration. If that goes away, he likely goes too.

You have to admire the relationship that JoePa and Penn State have worked out. There is respect, commitment, and flexibility. It's good for football to see him back on top with a great team.

I too believe PF's blood flows purple - we made it special when we recruited him, watched him mature into a master defensive player, got him a coaching position, then believed in him enough to make him HC at an amazingly young age.

PF speaks constantly of our football family, and its importance, and I'm not sure he's capable of insincerity (except perhaps when praising every future opponent - I believe he said that SIU was as good a team as any that we would face this year ?)

That said, if Nick Saban skipped town one of these days (to prove his NFL bona fides ?), and someplace like Bama offered him untold millions, he would owe it to his family to listen.

I am hopeful though that we would counter with something reasonable, and all sides would remain happy.

The fact is that at the highest profile programs, you're only as good as your last bowl win, and a lot of mighty coaches have fallen fast at those programs. As one of our own, it's hard to imagine what PF would have to do to get in deep trouble here.

WIW - Teddy thinks the 95 team was better using yearend statistics vs the urrent team after 5 games, a little unfair. He does point out that Fitz was alling opponent's sets and was right 95% of the time. He's getting better every ame as a Head Coach, but you have to wonder what kind of defensive coordinator e would have been.
Aw, I'm glad he's at NU, just hope he doesn't get one of the multi-million ollar offers to go to the coast....
