If Fitz is going to be inundated with offers, then it is up to our
administration to step up to the plate and do what it takes--within reason--to keep
him at his alma mater. If anyone is capable of making NU a destination and a
contender in the conference on a semi-regular basis, it is PF, given his
background and his personality and skill sets. RW never wanted to go anywhere
else, and hopefully Fitz will follow in his mentor's footsteps, provided is
provided with the resources (facilities, talent, promotion) and incentive (salary
for him and his assistants) that persuade him to stay. I don't see going to
ND as a major threat at this point, as their football program over the past
several seasons is verging on the disfunctional, and also one of the
highlights of Fitz's career had to be the feeling he had walking off the field after
we beat them 17-15 the first game of the 1995 season. Seeing Fitz in Green
and Gold would be like seeing Bret Favre in a Bears uniform (not Jets, guys, I
like that one.:-)).
