Nice article in today's Tribune about our suddenly fearsome defensive unit:

But they need a nickname. How about "Son of Purple People Eaters"?:-)

Let's all enjoy our "day off" from 'Cat pigskin tomorrow and come back
strong against Sparty. The next two games at home really set the table for the
season. Win 'em both--which obviously will be no easy task--and we are on the
way to big things, including serious national rankings (with all the pressure
that brings) and the prospect of some nice bowling opportunities. It's a
heady feeling to be 5-0, but this team hasn't yet been up against a clearly
better, more talented opponent, so we don't really know the true potential that
it has. What we do know is that, so far, Fitz's boys have found a way to
win, something that wasn't really true the past two years (i.e., since RW was
taken so suddenly). This seems to be a "T-E-A-M", and PF knows what it takes
to maintain the unity and the psychological drive to prevail, having been to
the "Mountaintop" himself. And we clearly have about a dozen (or more) very
talented playmakers on both sides of the ball. I remain hopeful, but wary.

On another note, while they are not--and have never been--my team, for those
Listers who are in virtual mourning right now over the Cubs' abysmal showing
the past two days, you all have my sympathy (and empathy). My daughter's
boyfriend is a Cubs fanatic from Chicago (a Wisky grad, but I really like him
in spite of his going to a NU rival, and his dad used to be an NU law prof),
and he is just dying, because he really thought this was "their year". As a
longtime sufferer of NY Jets ignominious defeats and chokes, I can
relate--although we will always have Joe Willie Namath and the upset of the Colts to
fall back on.
