Or sell tickets. I can't blame bowls (or bowl forecasters) for having
doubts about a team that usually sells 20,000 tickets at home. Yes, we know they
tend to travel better, and yes, we know they have different spending habits
than rural Iowans, but bowl committees are not filled with Nobel Laureates,
they're filled with local business types who see empty seats and think empty
hotel rooms and empty restaurants.

If we are truly angry about lesser bowl bids, we should be complaining about
pathetic marketing, and an athletic department that seems perfectly happy to
accept empty seats (unless they can be sold, easily and without effort, to
visiting fans).

I hate this crap, I really do.

OUTBACK: Iowa v. South Carolina or LSU
ALAMO: NU v. Oklahoma State

NU beats Iowa, has one more victory than Iowa, and as a reward, they get to
play a tougher team (this is a year I wouldn't be afraid to see NU play LSU
... or South Carolina, or Georgia) in a less prestigious bowl and not on New
Year's Day.

GRRR.

It's time to face reality: NU will continue to get the shaft on bowl day
UNLESS it has a two game advantage on someone.

Or unless they do as suggested by Jake Taylor (played by Tom Berenger) in
MAJOR LEAGUE, one of my all-time favorite movies:

Win the whole ... fu(k!ng ... thing.

(Sorry for the profanity folks, but not only was it the line in the movie,
but it accurately represents how I feel ... and how a lot of folks here feel
too, I imagine.)

Go 'CATS!
