I hate to mess up your story line, but actually Ole Miss should play
in the Cotton Bowl. The SEC team in the Outback Bowl will likely be
South Carolina or LSU. The SEC selection process is fairly
complicated (not unlike the Big Ten process), but essentially the
Outback and Cotton Bowls each get a third pick, but the Cotton gets
preference to the West division of the SEC and the Outback gets
preference to the East division. So the Cotton will get to pick Ole
Miss and then the Outback will likely pick South Carolina out of the
East, although it's not obligated to pick from the East, and may pick
LSU. South Carolina's loss to Clemson today somewhat messed things up
for South Carolina as they were expected to be a lock for the Outback.
I, too, think it would be awesome to see NU vs. Vanderbilt in the
Outback. The Outback could pick Vanderbilt (tied with South Carolina
in the SEC East), although it seems unlikely.
