A friend of mine who was a founder of an alarm system manufacturer told me a number of years ago that some burglars traced the lines coming out of an alarm monitoring company in NY and hit the lines with an ax setting alarms off all over NY allowing the burglars to then break into jewelry stores with little fear that the cops would figure out which stores to go to first and get there in time.
