Aaaah, but that's the whole point. You'd get to have your cake and eat it too with a playoff!

There will always be plenty of controversy, and the regular season will still be packed full of meaningful games.

But instead of such a high followed by the bummer of a magical four-spot leap by LSU to play a home game and win a so-called title with two losses, you'll get it decided on the field.

Imagine that! An early-season road loss for USC to a better-than-expected Oregon State won't kill their title chances (even though a home loss to Ole Miss didn't kill Florida's shot because of the overinflated view of the SEC).

Or a tough road loss to a league rival on a roll in bad weather won't end PSU's dreams ... even though one in better weather didn't spoil Texas' shot.

You'd have controversy galore over who was left out, who was seeded where, etc. But then you'd have those eight teams playing on the field and we'd at least have the feeling that someone earned the championship instead of whining their way in like Urban Meyer in 2006.

Just go back and look at the BCS era -- only three times did we have a clear #1 vs. #2 and a clear champion. Meanwhile look at what's happened to the grand bowl tradition in that era -- low attendance, uncompetitive games (even in the other BCS bowls) and an ending where we are left to wonder what could have been in a better system.

I know I'm railing on an on about this - but I just don't get what's good about the current system. Either return us to the old bowl system with tradition or go with a playoff. The BCS is just the worst of both worlds -- ANYTHING would be better!

GO CATS!!!
